In Episode 17 - Rawr Means I Love You, we decorated cookie kits from local company Sweets by Sask! We love supporting local business, and wanted to share a little more about Sask and her company!
Tell us about yourself
I’m Saskia and I've lived in Kelowna for the past 11 years. I started Sweets by Sask in 2019 as a creative outlet from my office job.
What got you into cookie decorating?
I have always been a creative and have dabbled in other mediums. I wanted to make cute, custom cookies for a friend's birthday and gave it a shot. I watched lots of Youtube and Instagram videos and had sooo much fun learning new things. I now find myself looking at the most random objects thinking, damn I wanna make a cookie of that!
Tell us about your business
At Sweets by Sask I work with you to create custom decorated sugar cookies for birthdays, weddings, housewarmings, or really any occasion. Everyone is always happy to get cookies :) I have also started offering DIY kits for people to create their own designs!

What do you love most about cookie decorating
Apart from the obvious perk of making people happy with baked goods, I love that I can make edible art. It is such a freeing feeling to pour your time and attention into a set and then next thing you know, it's eaten up never to be seen again. I sometimes like to just experiment on my own with ideas that I've come up with and give those to friends or family.
What advice do you have for people starting out
Practice, practice, practice. It is SO easy to get caught up on the stylish Instagram photos that look soooo perfect. But just remember that everyone started somewhere and there's always a place for new talent!
Outside of cookie decorating, do you have any other hobbies?
I actually have a podcast as well! We are on a hiatus right now, but my friend and I rate potato chips (and other crunchy snacks). If you love potato chips as much as we do, and want a laugh or two you can listen to the episodes we have so far on Spotify...search It's Crunch Time!
